‚ÄčWhen Houghton books or manuscripts are stored off-site, the HOLLIS catalog lists their location as "Houghton Harvard Depository." In order to make requests, readers must first create a Special Collections Readers' Account.

Once you have registered you will be able to use the Request links in HOLLIS to recall up to six cartons at a time from the Depository. It takes one working-day to retrieve material from the Depository. The Depository is closed on weekends. Please include a "scheduled date" on the pull-down calendar at the bottom of your request forms so we can recall the item from the Depository in time for your visit.

If you do not have a currently valid Harvard ID, please be sure to bring along a photo ID with a birth date, such as a driver's license or passport, to present when you pick up your reader's card at the Library Privileges Office next door in Widener Library just before you come to Houghton. This process takes only a few minutes, and is required for entry to the library. If you are going to begin work between 9 AM and noon on Saturday morning, when the Library Privileges office is closed, come straight to Houghton Library instead.
