Most of the Harvard Libraries do not collect textbooks as a matter of policy, but we do have some, and they are included in the Hollis Catalog. Therefore, you can search for specific textbooks in Hollis by author or title.
If you are looking for textbooks by subject, theoretically you can do so by entering the keywords into Hollis, then limiting your results on the right side of the screen by "Genre/Form," "Textbooks." I must say, however, that it does not seem to work very well.
Many professors put copies of textbooks on reserve for student use; for FAS, please see http://hcl.harvard.edu/info/reserves/index.cfm#students for more information. If the textbook for your course has not been placed on reserve, by all means, ask your instructor to do so.
