The following two databases are excellent starting places for locating British Archives:
- The National Register of Archives contains information on the nature and location of manuscripts and historical records that relate to British history. Maintained by The National Archives: Historical Manuscripts Commission, it indexes over 44,000 unpublished lists and catalogues. It also has entries for manuscripts relating to British history in other countries.
- The Archives Hub enables you to search across archives held at nearly 200 UK institutions.
The National Archives web page contains a lot of useful information and links.
