Fines can vary depending on the library and your affiliation. You can check the Fines page for information about fines at the Harvard College Libraries. For Widener and other College Libraries, please send your questions to:; or call (617) 495-4166 for further information.

Generally, the fine for overdue is 50 cents a day. For overdue recalled items, the fine is $2 a day with no grace period.

Lost books incur a lost book fee; a billing fee; and the overdue fines. If the book is later returned, the lost book fee alone is generally refunded. Exact fees vary by library.

There are several special categories of fines- reserves, non-book formats and short or hourly loan periods.

Consult the individual Harvard library for specifics.
