Answer
The Harvard Classics, published in 1910, is a 51-volume anthology of classic literary works, compiled and edited by Harvard president Charles W. Eliot.
The following links take you to good soruces of information about the series: http://www.harvard-magazine.com/on-line/110177.html and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harvard_Classics
The texts are now in the public domain, and are available through several online sites such as Project Gutenberg and Bartleby.com.
