When is the Widener Memorial Room and Gutenberg Bible display open?
The Widener Memorial Room is open 9am - 5pm, Monday - Friday.
Harvard's copy of the Gutenberg Bible is on display there, but is accessible, with rare exceptions, to Harvard ID holders only. Yale's Beinecke Library, the Library of Congress, the Harry Ransom Center in Austin, TX, and the Pierpont Morgan Library in New York are the other US institutions that hold complete copies. We believe all these libraries have their copies on display to the public, but you may want to double check with them before making the journey.
At our rare book library, Houghton, we have a couple of leaves from dispersed copies of Gutenberg bibles, and one is generally shown during Houghton's Friday 2:00 public tours. While we realize there's nothing like seeing the real thing, if you are interested, several Gutenbergs have been digitized in their entirety; you can view one at The British Library Treasures in Full: Gutenberg Bible
